GARMIN 010-00321-31 GPS 18x USB. The GPS 18x is a GPS sensor targeted to OEM clients for use in automotive, fleet vehicle, and electronics applications where a small, highly accurate GPS receiver is needed. This 12 parallel channel, WAAS enabled GPS receiver is available in either CMOS level serial or USB 2.0 full speed versions, and comes with an integrated magnetic base. The puck like receiver is 2.4 inches in diameter and weighs just ounces, making it an ideal solution in applications where space is at a premium. The GPS 18x is offered in three different cable configurations: A style USB, DB 9 pin serial with 12 volt cigarette lighter adapter /PC, or bare wire /LVC. The PC and LVC versions both default to output data in the industry standard NMEA 0183 data format, but may also be user programmed to output data in the GARMIN proprietary format. The USB version produces data only in the GARMIN proprietary format. All three versions of the GPS 18 come complete with non volatile memory for storage of configuration information, a real time clock, and raw measurement output data for sophisticated customer applications. The LVC version additionally provides a pulse per second logic level output whose rising edge is aligned to the UTC second within 1 microsecond. The USB 2.0 full speed version of the GPS18 is also compatible with USB 1.1 full speed hosts.

5Garmin GPS for PC  Apr 22, 2010 By Tom VanderPutten "TVPBNL"
I am on the road a lot. I need a laptop for my work and am often in rental cars. I use Mobile PC with my Garmin USB attached to my Dell laptop. I use a Kensington power supply connected to the 12 volt in the car or I have a power inverter standing by. The power of the PC data base allows a ton of point locations to be stored, ready for use.
Don't leave home without it!

5A diferent choise  Apr 12, 2009 By Jonathan Sanchez

Mi first Garmin was an etrex vista long time ago, but a couple a month ago the screen stop to work and it was time to change it, my action field for the GPS is off road 4x4 trips, I just want a GPS with a very good and wide map view, and with many features. FOr these options you need to spend between $300 and $400, that's why I decided to buy a Asus laptop and the Garmin GPS 18X USB, with mapsource and nroute you dont need anything else, perfect combination: you obtain a good GPS with a lot of features and a little laptop por trips, pictures music, etc. And I spent about $400

4High priced, but solid and reliable  Feb 06, 2012 By Ken
I've owned two of these units, and use them in a mobile environment with a laptop to find utility equipment in municipal environments.

I can't use a conventional dashboard GPS due to the need for service people to interchange files that show equipment locations.

That being said, this is a solid and reliable unit. My first gave up the ghost after a lot of years due to abuse to it's USB connector. This one works just as well.

Interfaces well with the DeLorme laptop mapping software. Unit is weatherproof and durable, and has a strong magnet in the base. Generally, I find leaving it on the dashboard is very sufficient for good results.

Cable is long enough to comfortably reach the laptop anywhere in 4 passenger vehicle.

A little pricy, but worth it. Depending upon your computer you may need the DeLorme "Spanner" software, or you may need to download drivers for the unit. I found it worked out the box with Windows 7 Pro.

5Another great Garmin product  Jan 03, 2012 By Backnthaday
This is an excellent plug-n-play GPS receiver. I used it with my Netbook, on the passenger seat of my vehicle. Set-up took all of 5 min, and worked perfecly with no glitches or hiccups.

5works great and reliable  Dec 07, 2011 By calleggra
this is actually my second one. the first one i bought was so easy - plug and play - it's so powerful, it locks on to satellites almost immediately! it's reliable, too. it never gave me a problem, not once since i've had it. so i decided to get another one for my husband's computer and as backup to the old magellan handheld gps that we've got connected to a dedicated PC on our boat for navigation. i've had the cheaper ones and they work okay if you don't mind "choppy" - no choppy with this little hockey puck-style gps!
