5Great tool  Aug 14, 2008 By Peter Mercado "mertico"
I bought the unit, took it home, charged it up, turned it on, it works.
The following day I went to the golf course, turned it on. The unit found the golf course I Was going to play, but with another golf course info. Played with it trying to get the correct info, got frustrated and turned it off.
When I got home, I turned on the computer, went to the Golf Buddy website. Followed the instructions, plugged in the Golf Buddy and registered the unit.
The next day I went to the same golf course, and turned on the unit. The unit found the golf course and the correct tees, hooray!!!! I recommend registering the unit first.
The Golf Buddy works as stated. No monthly or yearly fees, and all my golfing friends want to use it, I have to take it away from them so I can use it. I Highly recommend this Unit.
Have used it at 3 golf courses in San Jose and 3 in Temecula, and it works great.

520,000 course capacity, auto course & hole recognition  Sep 27, 2008 By T. Chang
I did a lot of research on all the golf GPS units on the market and chose the GolfBuddy Pro because of its huge 20,000 course capacity, automatic course and hole recognition, ease of use, reasonable price, and lack of a subscription fee. They currently have about 12,000 courses mapped in the U.S. and another 4,000 outside the U.S. They don't have as many courses mapped as SkyCaddie or iGolf, but I've noticed they have been adding courses quickly. Most of the courses I had been looking for were already mapped and most of the ones that weren't were added within 3 wks. The GolfBuddy takes about 2 minutes to lock onto the satellites and 1-2 minutes to bring up the course and hole automatically. I turn it on when I approach the clubhouse and it's ready to go on the first hole. Once I discovered that it takes about 5 seconds for the distance to stabilize after you stop walking, the unit's accuracy has been quite good. I tested the accuracy against the 150 yd marker on 8 holes and found it to be within 3 yds on 6 of those holes and within 5 yds on all 8. Most holes already have all the important targets mapped, but it's easy to add your own targets if needed (e.g. distance to doglegs). I love the shot distance feature, which requires the push of just one button. It's really useful to know how far I hit each club.

5Great unit! And no yearly fees..  Feb 09, 2009 By M. Reinig
Let me start out by saying that I did a lot of on-line research; talked to numerous golfing friends and talked to the guys in the stores before I bought the Golf Buddy. I decided on the Golf Buddy primarily because I didnt want to pay a yearly maintenance fee and all of the courses I wanted to play were already in their database. I've used the device 3 times so far (on 3 different courses) and its definitely worked as advertised. The first time I used it I was out of state and actually played a course where the carts had GPS built into them. The GB tracked within 1-3 yards of the cart GPS throughout the round. On one of the other rounds I played with a guy who had one of the iGolf GPS devices and we checked the distances with each other throughout the round. The units were always within 1-2 yards of each other. The screen was easy to see and battery life is excellent. I played two rounds and still had about 1/3 of the battery life left before I charged it again. From a durability perspective the unit has been dropped twice so far...once on concrete (ouch!) but kept right on working.

My buying experience went perfectly. The unit arrived on time, packaging was good and it worked right out of the box.

Cons: Size of the units. Even with the belt clip the unit is too thick for my taste so I carry it in my golf bag. This is probably just a personal preference.

5golf buddy pro  Sep 24, 2008 By Thomas D. Swineford
golf buddy pro works well. I like the feature that it just finds the course you are playing automatically, doesn't require the course to be downloaded by the owner prior to use and doesn't require an annual fee to use any of the courses that it offers. Would recommend this product to anyine.

2Yardage was off  Dec 28, 2009 By Baseballbob
I took this range finder on my local course and found that it was off 12-15 yards on most holes. I compared it to the yard markers on the sprinkler heads which were the most accurate markings on the course according to the pro shop. On most holes it was showing 12-15 yards longer but on a couple holes it was 8-10 yards short. This of course makes a big difference in club selection. The next day I drove the course with my neighbor who had a different brand GPS range finder. I compared my Golf Buddy Pro to his and found that his was close to the course markers but mine were off as I have described.

The Golf Buddy Pro did do a nice job of automatically finding the couple courses that I played and moved from hole to hole great. I still like the size of it and the graphic read outs. The idea of no monthly or yearly fees was attractive but it has to be accurate to be useable.
