Excellent for beginners Jan 29, 2006
By Matt Binoculars are excellent for beginners to amateur astronomy - they cost less than telescopes and they give you a great deal of freedom to scan the sky. I bought these for this reason and I've been very happy with them. The magnification is low enough that holding them in your hands doesn't produce too much jitter, but it's high enough to bring out celestial objects you wouldn't see unaided. I've seen galaxies, double stars, and Jupiter's moons with these.
The only downside is that the bodies of the lenses are very bulky and close together, so screwing in a tripod adapter is awkward and takes a few tries before it's in all the way.

College Approved! Jul 20, 2008

Our local community college uses this binocular during astronomy class labs and star parties. Many beginning stargazers are impressed with the power and flexibility of binoculars. True, they do not produce the views of telescope; however, for beginners, binoculars are more forgiving, capturing sky with good results. Once you've seen the Great Orion Nebula for the first time for yourself through these, you are hooked on astronomy! [Note: these astro-binos are heavy; children and adults with small hands may have a hard time holding them steady for satisfying viewing.]

Good Accessory May 27, 2008

"big mo"
Meade Travel View 9x63 Astronomy Roof Prism Binoculars I bought this to supplement my 5" scope. Used to view the ISS when it went over my house. Good quality, but hard to hold steady.
Well made and bright. Jan 24, 2012
By Samsen In general it is said Meade make the best astro instuments when they are presented in higher cost cathegory and its cheap items are not that much useful. This one breaks the rule. I am not sure why people call it heavy or bulky. For a binoular of this cathegory this is just the rigth size, well seats in hand, easy to manupulate and overall well ballanced. Easy to follow a fast moving object s.a. ISS. It gathers good deal of light. Magnification is adequate for a sharp image. Focusing is easy and smooth. I have no complain whatsoever though it would be good if they would provid a tripod mounting socket. Price is just right. quality and build is good. I give this a 4 and half star round off to 5.
Not bad Aug 23, 2011
By Dewman138 These binoculars came in just over a week. They came with A bag and 2 sets of covers for the objectives. They are big and a little Bit heavier than a 50 mm pair. But the view through the eyepiece is pleasant. They bring out the jupiter moons easily and our moon looks really good.
