3Writing Changes back to Database does not work!!!  Aug 13, 2007 By Shahzad Khan "Tanolis"
I been using Visio Enterprise 2003 for the last 3 years with Sql Server 2000. My only use of visio relates to database modeling. Once the drawing is been approved, I simply used "Update" option to update database. The update option is a time saving feature in a rapid application development environment for changing relationship, keys and constraints. Writing those changes back to Sql Server is a smooth process.

Recently i changed my development environment to SQL Server 2005 and figured out that Visio 2003 Enterprise does not work with SQL Server 2005. So I decided to buy visio professional 2007 to use the single feature of database modeling.

Upon installation, I figured that there is no option for writing changes back to SQL Server 2005 in either version of Visio (2003 Enterprise, 2007 Professional). In simple there is no "update" or "generate" command in visio professional 2007.

Put it simple. If you want to use database modeling and hoping to write those changes back to SQL Server 2005 with visio, DON'T BUT IT......IT WILL NOT WORK

4Visio  Nov 06, 2007 By Business Analyst
The new Visio Professional improves upon the previous version in UML diagrams. It allows for more flexibility while enforcing the rules to a greater degree. The additional templates that came standard and the organization of them was very useful. On the down side, like all the new products from Microsoft, it is a memory hog.

4Download it free to try it out; pretty cool  May 30, 2010 By B. Tarbuck
I've used this for a while. I got a copy cheap from the Microsoft store years ago and actually used it to layout our house.

At work I use it for making org-charts and I have to say that's a hit or miss experience. Sometimes it works the way you want it to and others, not so much.

It is highly advanced and probably a lot more so than most of us need. I mean, do you really need to mess around with importing and exporting data into Visio? I suppose you could if you had to update it a lot.

The schedule thing is pretty cool to do a quick timeline and the calendar function is really great for making jumbo sized calendars assuming you're into that kind of thing.

It's great for process descriptions or stepwise type routines that you need to put in a manual or a procedure.

I'd say it's sort of the Swiss Army Knife in the Microsoft suite of software. It can do a lot of cool things but also has tools that you might never use.

Overall, it's really too bad you don't get this w/ Office Professional instead of Publisher as this is a much more versatile tool. And, best of all, the folks at Microsoft have the awesome try before you buy plan. If you like it you just download a key and keep using it.

3Visio Build  Aug 11, 2008 By Don A. Peterson
For building and furnishing a home, there were not enough stencils. Also had trouble inserting stencils and having them stay where they were placed.

5Great UML design tool  Jul 18, 2007 By Kim Dam Petersen "kimdam"
I use Visio professionally for software design and am very fond of the UML plug-in that is part of the Professional edition of Visio, and of the template for specifying the Network that the software is part of.

Visio, as most Microsoft products, is very user-friendly and the graphic layout is very easy to read - both on Screen and on Print.
