1IT BOMBS OUT!  Aug 16, 2000 By Stephen Skauge
I was very surprised to get this program home and find that it seems to have some major bugs. The concept seems great, the problem is the program keeps crashing if you play it too long.

The tech people say it has to do with the on-line registration, they report some people can register and some can not.

It is very frustrating to spend good money on a program and have it not work.

I hope they get the kinks worked out of an otherwise excellent game.

5Fun and challenging - my son loved it!  Apr 18, 2001 By mswnola "msw"
My son loves this game, and solving the exercises and problems was fun to earn clues to the mystery. It seemed the appropriate level of challenge, as he will be entering 4th grade in the fall, and he needed help with some of the exercises, especially fractions. That was a good opportunity to introduce him to the subject. With the ADAPT feature, if they get stuck, the software keeps the level easy enough so they don't get too frustrated, and hard enough that it is still challenging. I highly recommend this software.

5Kids loved it!  Jun 20, 2000 By Stephanie J. Weber "hummingbird789"
My kids loved this adventure. My daughter is going into the 3rd grade this fall, and she has played and beaten the game on level one. She is playing again and getting better at the percentage of correct answers. My son played it many times when he was in 3rd grade. The 5 different levels make it interesting when playing over again.

4ClueFinders 4th Grade is fun  Mar 11, 2006
I opened up the game and the minute I heard Soferdus (Joni's dog) do the first narration sentence, I knew I would like this game. The way they create this is brilliant. It covers most subjects and teaches them in a way that is very helpful for those who are having trouble. You start off in Cairo to find an ancient scroll. My only regrets for the Cairo area is you have to go back to the activities over and over until you deciphered all 5 clues and the geography game is very long and my favorite game, the fabric fractions game, is very short. Then you sail up the Nile to an island where you must collect gems from the mice in the area (who seem to think they are ancient Egyptians). Again, you have to keep going back to the activities until you've earned all the gems. The difference between Cairo is they always give you 3 cairoglyphs and run out, but you can never tell how many gems the rats have until they run out. Therefore, my least favorite games get played over and over, but my favorite games can get short. Also, for some strange reason, I had to play a pillar building game using decimals (that I hate) over and over and over until he ran out of gems. After that, they must go thru ancient challenges until they reach the end. Then just sit back and enjoy the rest of the story. I love the humor in this thing, but it kind of insults the Egyptian gods at one point. (I can't tell you where because it gives away an important part.)

Overall, it's a great game, although I must say the plot is much greater then the learning concept. The plot will grip children and they will go back again and again and move up levels until they have learned everything in the game. I recommend it (despite my complaints). ~Russian Blue Witch

4Great in the classroom  May 04, 2001
I teach special education classes in a jr. high school. This program (and the 5th Grade Adventure) is terrific for my students who are 6th to 8th graders reading at 3rd to 5th grade level. they have the same interest as every other Jr. High student, but not the ability to process at the same level. My students play this game all the time -- It is not patronizing to the students like a Reader Rabbit game would be. I have purchased several copies so that more than one student can play at a time. I HIGHLY reccommend it.
